SUMMARY:Coastal Navigation & Tidal Planning
DESCRIPTION:The British Canoeing Awarding Body Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning Training is designed for those paddlers carrying out coastal journeys including islands up to 2 nautical miles offshore in areas of tidal movement up to 2 knots and is a prerequisite for those seeking their British Canoeing Sea Kayak Leader Award.  However\, anyone wishing to undertake journeys on the sea using a kayak would find the technical and theoretical aspects not only useful\, but essential for safe travel in the marine environment! This course is designed to complement the areas covered in the British Canoeing Sea Kayak Leader Training as well a SUP Coastal awards or for anyone looking to head out onto the coast by sea and develop the skills to learn to plan journeys safely. \nThis is a full classroom based course\, upon completion a certificate will be issued from Canoe Wales.  The course cost includes access to all materials needed to complete the course\, registration fees along with complimentary tea and coffee. \nHeld in Amlwch Port at 0845 – 18:00 \n*** If you are a current Member of one of the British Canoeing Home Nations and wish to book onto this course please contact us for a discounted member price *** \nThe aim of this course is to give the student the tools to enable them to plan and navigate effectively on coastal journeys in moderate sea conditions. This will include the following aspects:\n To interpret sources of information including maps\, charts\, coastal pilots and tide tables\n To navigate on the water using visual references and simple pilotage techniques\, e.g. transits and dead reckoning\n Effective use of a compass\n To be able to source\, interpret and apply weather information to the coastal environment\n By the end of the course each student should have planned at least 2 coastal journeys that they can take home as references for further trip planning\n To be aware of the range of resources required to plan trips in the coastal environment\n Students should be made aware of the role of the Coastguard and the value of liaising with them \nBy the end of the course\, each candidate should have planned at least 2 open crossings that they can take home as references for further trip planning. \nCandidates should also be aware of the range of resources they require to plan trips in any sea area. \nFor more information on the content covered\, please read the Syllabus.

DESCRIPTION:Sea Kayak Leader (Tidal): The British Canoeing Awarding Body Sea Kayak Leader Tidal qualification is appropriate for leading others on journeys on moderate sea. This includes a stretch of coastline with some areas where it is not easy to land but there will always be straightforward land points a maximum of two nautical miles apart\, crossings not exceeding two nautical miles\, up to 2 Knots of tide (but not involving tide race or overfalls). Wind strengths do not exceed Beaufort force 4. DESCRIPTION:The British Canoeing Awarding Body Advanced Sea Kayak Leader is aimed at paddlers who wish to lead groups of sea kayakers in advanced sea (tidal). \nAdvanced Sea Kayak Leader (non-tidal and tidal) Training courses are available to support you in your development of the required skills. These courses typically cover leadership skills\, and the associated personal skills\, safety and rescue skills. As this training is delivered by British Canoeing Awarding Body Advanced Sea Kayak Leader (non-tidal and tidal) Providers\, they will also be able to help you identify an appropriate action plan to support your progress towards a successful assessment. This is the comprehensive option; courses are normally offered as 2-5 day programmes\, with longer courses providing more time for you to practice and develop the skills.
